Clinical Interests and Approach
The majority of my clinical training has been focused on helping people cope with and heal from deep interpersonal wounds and traumatic life experiences. I have worked extensively with immigrants and others who have a connection to the immigrant experience, often through a partner or parent(s), and with people who are dealing with the psychological impacts of racism, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, ethnocentrism, and other forms of oppression.
I draw from different theories, including psychoanalysis and psychodynamic theory, trauma studies, mindfulness practice, narrative therapy, liberation psychology, and feminism, among others. I tailor my clinical approach to make sure therapy is collaborative, effective, and focused on meeting your goals.
While the therapeutic process can be uncomfortable and challenging at times, it’s important that you feel connected with and seen by your therapist. I work relationally and believe that being curious and thoughtful about what happens between us is an indispensable element of the growth process. The type of therapy I practice tends to require more time than brief, solution-focused models.
